An Analysis of Slang Word in Movie “Turning Red” by Domee Shi

Abstract

This research entitled An Analysis of Slang Words in Movie Turning Red by Domee Shi. This research aims to determine the types and function of slang word formation which manifested in the formation of slang words in Turning Red movie. Data collection involved documenting script Turning Red Movie. This research found that there were five types of slang word formation in the data: fresh and creative, flippant, imitative, acronym, clipping. Fresh and creative emerged as the most dominant type, accounting for 40%, followed by imitative (21%), clipping (21%), flippant (14%), acronym (4%). Function slang word of this Movie dominant make Fresh and creative that is the process of a word into a new word creative, innovative. These slang word used in movie to convey emotion, addressing, relax conversation.
